Its origins trace to 1979, when the Oko Progressive Union established a College of Arts and Science, largely catalysed by the patronage of Dr Alex Ekwueme, a former Vice President of Nigeria and son of Oko. The institution was formalised as the Anambra State Polytechnic, Oko, through Edict No. 12 of 1985, and was subsequently taken over by the Federal Government in 1993, at which point it was renamed Federal Polytechnic, Oko. OKOPOLY operates three campuses: the main campus at Oko (89 hectares), the Ufuma campus (52 hectares), and the Atani campus (40 hectares). Gozie Anyachebelu Oragram Polytechnic (GOZPOLY) is a private polytechnic established in 2024 by the Anglican Niger Diocese of the Church of Nigeria, with its permanent site in Oraukwu, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State. Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic (ATAPOLY) is the premier state polytechnic of Bauchi State, established by Edict No. 1 of 1988 through the merger of two defunct institutions: the Bauchi College of Arts and Science (BACAS), which was itself established in 1976, and the then Bauchi State Polytechnic. Akperan Orshi Polytechnic, Yandev (AOPOLY) is a state polytechnic in Yandev, Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State, with origins dating to 1926 when the British colonial administration established a farm training centre at Yandev in Tiv Province. In 1973, the Benue-Plateau State Government upgraded it to a School of Agriculture. The Department of Agriculture from the Murtala College of Arts, Science and Technology, Makurdi, was merged into the college in 1983. It was renamed Akperan Orshi College of Agriculture in 1992 in memory of HRH Orchiviligh (Dr.) James Akperan Orshi, Tor Tiv III, the late paramount ruler of Tivland. On June 10, 2020, the Benue State Government upgraded it to full polytechnic status under Governor Samuel Ortom. The polytechnic sits on a 231-hectare campus and is accredited by the NBTE. Gboko Polytechnic is a state polytechnic located in Gboko, the major commercial and cultural city of Tivland in Benue State. Federal Polytechnic, Monguno is a federal government-owned polytechnic located in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State, northeast Nigeria. Established on January 5, 2021 under President Muhammadu Buhari's administration, it is the first federal polytechnic ever established in Borno State and one of seven new federal polytechnics approved in 2021 to ensure every state has a federal polytechnic. The polytechnic was established to provide technical and vocational education to communities in the Lake Chad Basin corridor, addressing a historic gap in federal higher education access for northern Borno communities. The institution commenced academic programmes with eight programmes across three schools and held its maiden matriculation ceremony on March 6, 2024 for 389 pioneer students — a landmark event attended by parents, community leaders and government officials. The polytechnic operates from a temporary site while its permanent site in Monguno town is developed with TETFund support. Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum approved construction of a new access road and hostel facilities for the polytechnic in November 2023. The second set of Principal Officers, led by current Rector Dr. Alhaji Umar Bukar, commenced tenure on March 17, 2026.

Ramat Polytechnic, Maiduguri (nicknamed "Rampoly") is the premier state polytechnic in Borno State and the oldest polytechnic in the North East geopolitical zone of Nigeria. It was established in January 1973 as Government Technical College by the defunct North-Eastern State Government. In April 1978, the Borno State Government upgraded and renamed the institution Ramat College of Technology to immortalise the name of the late Head of State, General Murtala Ramat Muhammad. In August 1979, it was further elevated to full polytechnic status in line with the Federal Government initiative to convert all Colleges of Technology to Polytechnics. Ramat Polytechnic is fully recognised by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), and has six schools comprising thirty-five academic departments. It offers full-time and part-time courses leading to ND, HND, NCE (Technical and Business), and Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) awards. PGD programmes are run through the Consultancy Unit and are affiliated to the University of Maiduguri. Since its inception, over 70,000 students have graduated from the institution — remarkable for a polytechnic operating in one of Nigeria's most security-challenged regions.

Delta Central Polytechnic, also known as Delta Central College of Business Management Studies (DECCOBAMS), is a private polytechnic located in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State. Founded in 2019, the institution received full accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in 2024 following a regulatory resource inspection. The polytechnic operates from a temporary site campus along Ekiugbo Road in Ughelli and is working toward establishing a permanent campus. Under the rectorship of Engr Anthony Okagbare, the institution has grown steadily, matriculating 518 fresh students at its 5th Matriculation Ceremony in March 2025 — a 62.9% increase from 318 students in 2024. Since its founding in 2019, Delta Central Polytechnic has produced over 600 graduates who have gone on to participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). The polytechnic fills an important gap in providing private-sector technical and vocational education in the Ughelli area, the commercial centre of Ughelli North LGA and a hub of the Delta Central senatorial district.

Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku (DSPG) is a state-owned polytechnic established in 2002 by the Delta State Government under Governor James Onanefe Ibori. It is one of three state polytechnics established simultaneously to provide equitable technical education across the three senatorial districts of Delta State. Located in the ancient royal town of Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area, DSPG has grown from an initial population of about 200 students in three departments to become one of the foremost polytechnics in the Niger Delta region. The polytechnic is accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and offers National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes in Art and Design, Business, Engineering, Applied Sciences, and Environmental Studies. Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara (DESPO) is a state-owned polytechnic established through a bill signed into law by Governor James Onanefe Ibori in November 2002. It was born out of a partnership between the Delta State Ministry of Education and Westminster University, London — known as the Delta State Higher Education Project (DSHEP). Located in the agricultural community of Otefe in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, DESPO operates under the motto "Technology for Entrepreneurship," reflecting its philosophy of using technical skills for wealth creation. The polytechnic is accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). In late 2024, following a rigorous resource verification, NBTE approved 23 additional academic programmes, raising DESPO's total to 53 approved programmes — including cutting-edge ND Civil Engineering, HND Mass Communication, HND Artificial Intelligence, and HND Cyber Security and Data Protection. In June 2025, DESPO held a historic combined convocation for 72,540 graduates spanning 10 sets (2014/2015 to 2023/2024 academic years) — its second ever convocation and the first in a decade.

Delta State School of Marine Technology, Burutu (DESOMATECH), also known as Delta State Maritime Polytechnic (DESMAPOLY), is a state-owned maritime technical institution established by an enabling act on August 2, 2006. It is accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and classified as a monotechnic, specializing in teaching, training, research and consultancy in the fields of maritime technology, marine engineering, and maritime science and management. The institution operates three campuses: the main campus in Burutu (a riverine community on the Forcados River in Burutu Local Government Area), with additional campuses at Gbaregolor and Utagba Ogbe. DESOMATECH is uniquely positioned along the River Delta, giving students hands-on access to Nigeria's inland waterway network and the oil-rich Niger Delta maritime ecosystem. On March 8, 2025, the institution held its historic first convocation ceremony, graduating students from 11 sets spanning 2011/2012 to 2023/2024 academic years. The institution's mission is to promote competence, expertise and enterprise in Marine Science, Engineering and Technology for the sustainable development of the Niger Delta.

Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Unwana (AIFPU) is the premier and only federal polytechnic in Ebonyi State, located in Unwana community, Afikpo North Local Government Area. It was established by Decree No. 33 of 1979, and commenced full academic activities on March 13, 1982, when 178 students were admitted into the pioneer programmes of Business Administration, Secretarial Studies, Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology and Mechanical Engineering Technology. The institution is named in honour of Late Ezeogo Dr. Akanu Ibiam — former Governor of Eastern Nigeria and one of Nigeria's most celebrated statesmen — whose community donated 620 hectares of land for the permanent campus. The foundation stone was laid by then Vice-President Dr. Alex Ekwueme on April 30, 1982. In October 2003, AIFPU was designated a Centre of Excellence for the Southeast by the NBTE for its outstanding administration and programme quality. The polytechnic relocated from its temporary site at Federal Government College Okposi to its permanent Unwana campus in 1987. In February 2025, AIFPU came third at the National Tech Exhibition for Nigerian Polytechnics with its innovative Online Staff Appraisal (OSTAPP) project.
