Delta State School of Marine Technology, Burutu (DESOMATECH), also known as Delta State Maritime Polytechnic (DESMAPOLY), is a state-owned maritime technical institution established by an enabling act on August 2, 2006. It is accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and classified as a monotechnic, specializing in teaching, training, research and consultancy in the fields of maritime technology, marine engineering, and maritime science and management. The institution operates three campuses: the main campus in Burutu (a riverine community on the Forcados River in Burutu Local Government Area), with additional campuses at Gbaregolor and Utagba Ogbe. DESOMATECH is uniquely positioned along the River Delta, giving students hands-on access to Nigeria's inland waterway network and the oil-rich Niger Delta maritime ecosystem. On March 8, 2025, the institution held its historic first convocation ceremony, graduating students from 11 sets spanning 2011/2012 to 2023/2024 academic years.
