Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi (FPTB) is one of Nigeria's oldest and most established federal polytechnics, founded in July 1979 through Decree No. 33 (Act 33) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria — one of the original seven federal polytechnics simultaneously established by the Federal Government. The institution is situated on a sprawling 750-hectare campus at Gwallameji Village along the Bauchi-Dass Road in Bauchi metropolis. FPTB commenced full operations in November 1979 with 224 students enrolled across 11 departments, initially operating from a temporary site on Yandoka Road before transitioning to its permanent site in 1982. The polytechnic is fully accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and in 2020 received approval to run nine degree-level courses in affiliation with Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi. It is the premier federal tertiary technical institution in Bauchi State and serves the wider North-East sub-region of Nigeria.

Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic (ATAPOLY) is the premier state polytechnic of Bauchi State, established by Edict No. 1 of 1988 through the merger of two defunct institutions: the Bauchi College of Arts and Science (BACAS), which was itself established in 1976, and the then Bauchi State Polytechnic. The institution was subsequently renamed Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic via Edict No. 7 of 1994, in honour of Alhaji Abubakar Tatari Ali, a distinguished former Governor of Bauchi State and a pivotal figure in northern Nigeria's political and educational history. In 2013, the College of Administrative and Business Studies (CABS), Azare, was merged into ATAPOLY as a unit school and campus, extending the polytechnic's reach to the Katagum axis of Bauchi State. The polytechnic currently operates from two campuses: the main campus at Wuntin Dada, Jos Road, Bauchi, and the Azare Campus. ATAPOLY is accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and runs seven unit schools across its two campuses. It offers ND, HND, NCE (via affiliated programmes) and B.Sc. degree-affiliated programmes in partnership with Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi. The polytechnic maintains an active e-library subscribed to JSTOR, the Web of Science, ProQuest, and other databases.
