Akawe Torkula Polytechnic (ATP) is a state polytechnic in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State. It was upgraded from the Akawe Torkula College of Advanced and Professional Studies (ATCAPS) by the Benue State Executive Council in January 2020 when Governor Samuel Ortom signed the enabling bill converting two Benue State colleges into polytechnics. The polytechnic is named after Chief Akawe Torkula, a prominent Tiv leader. Staff were recruited by the state government in June 2021. Dr. Martin Moses Agena was appointed rector on April 25, 2024 by Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, with a mandate to reposition the institution as a leader in cutting-edge technical education. The polytechnic is committed to global perspectives, innovative teaching and strong industry links.
