Bayelsa State Polytechnic (BYSPOLY), nicknamed the "Pride of the Izon Nation," is the premier state-owned polytechnic in Bayelsa State. It was established by the Bayelsa State Polytechnic (Establishment) Law 2014, assented to by Governor Henry Seriake Dickson on April 30, 2014, and later amended by the Bayelsa State Polytechnic (Amendment) Law 2018. The polytechnic is situated in Aleibiri town on the Bolou Toru Creek in Ekeremor Local Government Area, approximately 51km from Yenagoa, the state capital. It is accessible from Yenagoa via the Sagbama/Toru-Orua Road and from Delta State via Bomadi Road. The Pioneer Rector, Prof. Promise Mebine, was appointed on December 4, 2017. BYSPOLY is accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and offers National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes. The polytechnic was set up primarily to produce middle and higher level technical manpower for Bayelsa State and the national economy, providing instruction in Science, Technology, Engineering, Commerce and Management.
