Federal Polytechnic, Ekowe is a federal government polytechnic located in Ekowe (also spelled Ekeu), an ancient town along the River Nun in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. It was established through legislation by the 6th National Assembly under the Federal Polytechnic Act of 1990 as amended and was assented into law by President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua in July 2007, with full academic take-off in 2009. Federal Polytechnic Ekowe is the first federal government higher institution established in Bayelsa State and holds a unique national mandate as Nigeria's premier oil and gas polytechnic, with a specific focus on training and developing specialised manpower in oil, gas and environmental studies — reflecting the Niger Delta region in which it is situated.
