Edo State is one of the 36 states of Nigeria, located in the South South geopolitical zone. The state capital is Benin City, which is the administrative, commercial and political centre of the state. Edo covers a total land area of 19,702 km². The state has an estimated population of 4,700,000 people. The population density is approximately 239 persons per km².
