The All Progressives Congress (APC) is Nigeria's ruling political party and the largest party by governorship seats as of 2026. Formed in 2013 through a merger of four major opposition parties — the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and a faction of APGA — the APC defeated the then-ruling PDP in the landmark 2015 general elections, marking the first time in Nigerian history that an incumbent president was defeated at the polls. The party controls the presidency and holds 31 of 37 governorships as of July 2026.

The APC was formally registered by INEC on 31 July 2013. In the 2015 elections, Muhammadu Buhari defeated incumbent Goodluck Jonathan by over 2.5 million votes — a historic first for Nigerian democracy. Buhari served two terms (2015–2023). In 2023, Bola Tinubu won the presidential election under the APC ticket. Following waves of defections from PDP in 2024–2026, APC's governorship count rose to 31 states, cementing its dominance. The party has also maintained majorities in the Senate and House of Representatives.
