Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) is one of Nigeria's oldest surviving political parties, founded in 1978 by the late Mallam Aminu Kano, a legendary northern Nigerian progressive politician. The party was a major force in the Second Republic (1979–1983), winning governorships in Kano and Kaduna. The PRP has been re-registered and continues to participate in elections as a progressive left-wing party.
