Ritman University is a privately owned entrepreneurial university located in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State. The NUC granted Ritman University its operational licence on 5 March 2015 and academic activities commenced on 23 November 2015. The university was founded by Senator Emmanuel Ibok Essien, who represented the Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District at the 4th National Assembly (Senate) from 1999 to 2003. Senator Essien established Ritman University as, in his words, "a response to the yearning of renascent Africans for an entrepreneurial university that develops the mind for total productivity, inculcates positive values and offers resources for navigating the world with ease." The university's motto — Knowledge for Development — reflects its focus on practical, entrepreneurship-driven education. Ritman University is NUC-accredited and is considered one of the most affordable private universities in the South-South region.
