The main languages spoken in Borno State include Arabic, Fulfulde, Hausa, Kanuri, Mandara and Margi. Most ethnic groups in the state maintain their indigenous languages alongside Nigerian Pidgin and English, which serve as common languages for trade and inter-ethnic communication.

Located in North East with its capital at Maiduguri, Borno State has a long history of inter-ethnic relations shaped by trade, agriculture, and shared governance under both traditional and modern political structures.
