💡 Screening Tips — How to Pass INEC Recruitment

From successful candidates
1 INEC adhoc recruitment tips: (1) Register early on eas.inecnigeria.org — the portal often experiences downtime due to high traffic when it first opens. (2) Ensure your PVC is valid and your NIN is linked to your BVN — these are verified during registration. (3) NYSC members should apply as APOs — the allowance is higher and priority is given. (4) Select your preferred LGA carefully — you will be assigned to a polling unit in or near that LGA. (5) Attend all training sessions — absent trainees are replaced. Training is typically 2–3 days. (6) On election day, arrive at your polling unit at least 30 minutes before 8:30am. BVAS (Bimodal Voter Accreditation System) must be set up before first voter arrives. (7) Do not accept money or inducement from any party — electoral offences carry up to 2 years imprisonment.

⛔ Common Disqualifiers — Why Candidates Are Rejected

Read before applying
⚠️ INEC adhoc disqualifiers: (1) Not a registered voter with valid PVC. (2) NIN not linked to BVN. (3) History of electoral offences — checked against INEC's electoral offences database. (4) Being a card-carrying member of a political party — declared partisans are excluded from PO/APO roles. (5) Age below 18. (6) Failure to attend mandatory training. (7) Being related to a candidate in the election you are assigned to.

⚠️ Bring original documents plus photocopies of each. Missing a single document typically means immediate disqualification.

📌 About Independent National Electoral Commission

Serving as an INEC ad-hoc staff is one of the few opportunities for ordinary Nigerians to directly participate in the democratic process and earn legitimate income while doing so. For NYSC corps members especially, INEC ad-hoc service is often the most memorable and civically significant experience of the service year.

The role of Presiding Officer is particularly demanding. A PO is responsible for everything that happens at their polling unit on election day — setting up the BVAS device, accrediting voters, managing orderly voting, counting results, filling Form EC8A (the polling unit result sheet) and transmitting results electronically. A single PO's actions can determine the outcome at a polling unit serving up to 500 registered voters.

The introduction of the BVAS (Bimodal Voter Accreditation System) in 2023 transformed INEC adhoc service. The device handles fingerprint and facial recognition accreditation, electronic result transmission via the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV), and tamper-evident result sheets. Training on the BVAS is now the core of INEC adhoc staff training.

Nigeria has had troubled elections historically, and the work of honest ad-hoc staff is what makes clean elections possible. The 2023 elections saw unprecedented result transparency through real-time IReV uploads — driven largely by the dedication of thousands of POs who followed the rules despite pressure and intimidation in some areas.

For 2027, with a presidential election expected on February 27 and governorship elections on March 6, INEC will need to recruit and train over a million ad-hoc staff. Registration on eas.inecnigeria.org when it opens is competitive — positions fill quickly in urban LGAs.
