The National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024, signed by President Bola Tinubu on July 29 2024, raised Nigeria's minimum wage from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000 per month. Each state government then negotiated its own rate through State Public Service Negotiation Committees. As of August 2026, minimum wages across states range from ₦70,000 (national floor) to ₦104,000 — with some states like Imo, Lagos and Rivers setting significantly higher baselines.
The figures below cover basic monthly salary only. Total take-home pay is 30–50% higher after housing allowance (15–20%), transport allowance (10–12%), and utility allowance (5–8%) are added. Labour unions in 2026 are already demanding a further review to ₦154,000–₦350,000, citing inflation since the 2024 Act.

State civil servants are paid under the Harmonised Public Service Salary Structure (HAPSS), Nigeria's unified state-level pay framework modelled on the federal CONPSS. It runs from Grade Level 1 (entry support roles) to Grade Level 17 (directors and permanent secretaries), with up to 15 steps per grade. Each step represents one year of service, so your salary rises annually within your grade.
The basic salary tables shown here do not include allowances. When housing, transport, utility and leave allowances are added, total take-home increases by 30–50% depending on grade level and state.
As of August 2026, the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) has formally demanded a new national minimum wage of ₦154,000 to ₦350,000, citing erosion of purchasing power since the 2024 Act. The next statutory wage review is due in 2027 under the three-year review cycle introduced by the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024. Some states — notably Imo (₦104,000), Lagos and Rivers (₦85,000 each) — have already moved significantly above the ₦70,000 floor. Check individual state pages for the latest figures.
