Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa was born on 11 November 1972 in Agege, Lagos State. He attended St Thomas Aquinas Primary School, Surulere, before proceeding to Archbishop Aggey Memorial Secondary School, Mushin. He later obtained an LLB from Lagos State University and is a practising lawyer.
He has represented Agege Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly since June 2007 and was first elected Speaker in June 2015, a position he held continuously for nearly a decade. On 13 January 2025, more than two-thirds of the House's lawmakers voted to remove him as Speaker over allegations including high-handedness, frequent lateness to plenary, abuse of office and financial misappropriation, which he denied. Obasa contested the legality of his removal, and on 3 March 2025, following Meranda's resignation from the speakership, he was reinstated as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
