Federal University of Agriculture, Mubi (FUAMB)

Modibbo Adama University (MAU), located in Yola, Adamawa State, is a federal university of technology established in 1981 by the Federal Government of Nigeria. The university began academic activities in 1983 and is named after Modibbo Adama, the 19th-century Fulani scholar and founder of the Adamawa Emirate. Formerly known as Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH), the institution was rebranded as Modibbo Adama University in 2021 to reflect its expanded scope beyond pure technology. MAU is one of seven federal universities of technology in Nigeria and is the premier federal university in Adamawa State. The university operates nine faculties plus a college of medicine and conducts both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across engineering, sciences, agriculture, management, and health sciences. MAU also runs a distance learning programme and a pre-degree programme. It is fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and is a leading research institution in northeast Nigeria.

The American University of Nigeria (AUN), located in Yola, Adamawa State, is Africa's first development university and the only American-style liberal arts university in sub-Saharan Africa. It was founded in 2003 (with academic activities commencing in 2005) by Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President of Nigeria, with the mission of contributing to the economic and social development of Nigeria through high-quality, internationally competitive university education. AUN follows the American higher education model — organizing programmes through schools rather than faculties, using a credit-hour tuition system, and offering a flexible, interdisciplinary curriculum. The university is accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and has a student body drawn from over 30 countries. AUN's campus covers 2,400 hectares in Yola and is considered one of the most modern and well-equipped university campuses in Nigeria.

Adamawa State University (ADSU), located in Mubi in the northern senatorial district of Adamawa State, is the only state-owned university in Adamawa State. It was established in 2002 by the Adamawa State Government with the mission of "Education for Development" and is dedicated to providing affordable, quality higher education to the people of Adamawa State and the wider northeast. ADSU is situated in Mubi, a commercial city at the foot of the scenic Mandara Mountains near the Cameroon border. The university operates across its main Mubi campus and a Sahuda campus for its Faculty of Social and Management Sciences, which moved to the permanent site in early 2025. ADSU is fully accredited by the NUC and offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across sciences, agriculture, social sciences, management, education and law.
