Aminu Iya Abbas was born in 1973 in Yola, Adamawa State. He holds a degree from Bayero University, Kano.
He represented Uba/Gaya constituency in the Adamawa State House of Assembly across two spells (2011–2015 and 2019–2023), serving as Speaker of the assembly from June 2019 until June 2023, when he was succeeded by Bathiya Wesley after winning election to the Senate.
