💡 Notable Facts about KIU

Kashim Ibrahim University was established by the Borno State Government in 2016 as Borno State University (BOSU) to absorb the large number of WAEC/NECO certificate holders in the northeast who were unable to gain admission into UNIMAID due to limited space.
The university was officially renamed Kashim Ibrahim University on 4 August 2025, effective by gubernatorial proclamation, in honour of Sir Kashim Ibrahim — the first Governor of Northern Nigeria and one of the foremost advocates of education in the Muslim north.
The university hosts a unique Centre for Kanuri Ajami and Quranic Studies, dedicated to preserving and studying the Kanuri language and its Islamic literary tradition — an important part of Borno's identity as the seat of the historic Kanem-Bornu Empire.
KIU emerged third in the 4th Edition of the NATAP-M Award for combined admissions in Nigeria, demonstrating its rapid growth despite its relatively recent establishment..
