📖 NPF Recruitment History
The Nigeria Police Force has conducted multiple large-scale recruitment exercises over the past decade. In 2020, the NPF recruited 10,000 constables after years without a major intake. In 2021, another batch of officers was enlisted following #EndSARS reforms. The 2023 recruitment was the most transparent to date, conducted entirely online via the recruitment.npf.gov.ng portal with biometric verification to reduce fraud. Historically, NPF recruitment cycles follow budget approvals from the National Assembly, which means dates are not always predictable. The Force has stated a target of recruiting 10,000 officers annually until 2030 to close its staffing gap.

Bring originals + photocopies📌 About Nigeria Police Force
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) recruitment is one of the most anticipated government recruitment exercises in Nigeria, drawing millions of applicants each cycle. Established under the Police Act, the Force is constitutionally mandated to maintain law and order across Nigeria's 36 states, FCT, and over 774 local government areas.
The NPF has a current strength of approximately 371,800 officers against an ideal requirement of over 650,000 — a deficit that makes each recruitment cycle significant for both the Force and applicants. The Inspector General of Police has consistently called for expanded recruitment to close this gap, meaning opportunities are expected to remain frequent through the late 2020s.
For constable applicants, the NPF recruitment process is competitive but straightforward if you meet the basic requirements. The academic bar is a minimum of 5 credits in WAEC/NECO/NABTEB including English Language and Mathematics. The physical requirements are non-negotiable: height, fitness tests, and medical examination are all conducted on the same screening day.
Officer cadets (Cadet ASP entry) follow a different path — they require a minimum of a second class lower degree or HND Upper Credit and must be commissioned through the Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, Kano State or through direct short service commission.
The screening exercise typically takes place at state police commands across the country simultaneously. Candidates are assigned to their state of origin or state of domicile. It is not possible to change state after submitting an online application, so ensure you select your preferred state correctly on the portal.
Past successful candidates consistently recommend starting physical training at least three months before any anticipated recruitment. The 1.6km run is the most common point of failure — practice running this distance within 8 minutes daily. Many candidates who pass all other stages fail due to inadequate physical preparation.
Corruption at NPF recruitment has been a historic problem, but recent cycles have been significantly more merit-based following the introduction of the online portal, biometric registration and JAMB-style CBT screening tests. The NPF has publicly warned against paying any agent or officer for recruitment placement — the process is entirely free.
