What is a Nigeria Postal Code?
Nigeria uses a 6-digit postal code system managed by NIPOST (Nigerian Postal Service). Every Local Government Area (LGA), city, town and district in all 36 states and the FCT Abuja has a unique postal code. The first 3 digits represent the postal zone (state zone code), and the last 3 digits identify the specific district or delivery point.
For example, Lagos State uses zone code 100, so Lagos postal codes run from 100001 upwards. Kano State uses zone 700, Abuja uses 900, and Rivers State uses 500. Postal codes in Nigeria are also called zip codes, though "postal code" is the officially correct term.

NWLagos State postal codes start with 100 for Ikeja (the capital) and Lagos Island, through to 106 for Epe and Ibeju-Lekki areas. The most commonly used Lagos postal code is 100001 for Ikeja/Lagos City, and 101001 for Lagos Island.
Abuja FCT uses zone code 900. The main Abuja postal code is 900001 for the Central Business District. Maitama uses 900211, Asokoro uses 900104, Wuse uses 900108, and Gwarinpa uses 902101.
Kano State postal codes start with 700. Kano City centre is 700001. Major codes include 700002 (Fagge), 700003 (Gwale), 700004 (Dala) and 703xxx series for outer LGAs like Bichi, Dambatta and Gaya.
Port Harcourt, Rivers State uses zone code 500. Port Harcourt City is 500001. Trans-Amadi Industrial Layout uses 500006, GRA uses 500002-500003. Obio-Akpor LGA uses 500101 onwards.
Ibadan, Oyo State uses zone code 200. Central Ibadan is 200001. Bodija uses 200002, Challenge uses 200003, and the Ring Road area uses 200103. Ogbomosho in Oyo State uses the 210xxx series.
The terms postal code and zip code are often used interchangeably for Nigeria. Technically, Nigeria uses postal codes managed by NIPOST. The 6-digit format is correct for all official uses including online forms, parcel delivery, bank verification addresses, and government documents. Nigeria uses a 6-digit numeric postal code system. The first 3 digits are the zone code (identifies the state), and the last 3 digits are the district code. For example: 100001 — first 3 digits (100) = Lagos zone, last 3 (001) = Ikeja district. There are no letters, hyphens or spaces in a valid Nigeria postal code.

Enugu State uses zone code 400. Enugu city centre is 400001. Independence Layout uses 400002, GRA Enugu uses 400003, and New Haven uses 400004. Nsukka in Enugu State uses the 410xxx series.
