Ikechukwu Lekwachi Emetu was born on 9 April 1984 in Ohafia, in what is now Abia State. A petrochemical engineer by training, he holds a degree from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri.
Emetu was selected as the running mate of Labour Party gubernatorial candidate Alex Otti ahead of the 2023 Abia State governorship election and received his certificate of return from INEC on 29 March 2023. He was sworn in as Deputy Governor of Abia State on 29 May 2023, succeeding Ude Oko Chukwu.
In his role, Emetu has spoken on the Otti administration's efforts to foster a business-friendly environment aimed at attracting investment and supporting entrepreneurship across Abia State.
